When it comes to the footer, it's mostly made up of technical information and links. My research just showed me general set-up that could be expected.
The Design Shack Footer, while giving you some good info, is too tall. The most important things can be kept, but the other things can be discarded or moved to other areas on the site.
The University of Massachusetts footer includes the copyright statement, as well as site policies.
The same can be said for the example below it. This is one of the only real situations that centered type is visually allowed on a site design.
